- Employer Sponsored Visas
- Employer sponsored visas are for skilled professionals who want to work in Australia.
Employer sponsored visas require sponsorship by an Australian business or an overseas
business.

- Partner Visas
- Partner visas allow partners and fiancés of Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to relocate to Australia either temporarily
or permanently.

The following partner visa options are grouped according to whether you will be applying
for your visa from within Australia or outside Australia.
APPLYING WITHIN AUSTRALIA

Temporary spouse visa (subclass 820) -
This visa is for someone who is in a spousal
Relationship (either married or de facto) with an Australian citizen, an Australian
permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. This partner visa is available for same sex couples.

Permanent spouse visa (subclass 801) -
This is a permanent visa that may be granted to a
temporary spouse visa holder once Immigration is satisfied that the relationship is ongoing
and genuine. This visa may also be granted to someone who has been in a long-term
spousal relationship (either married or de facto) with an Australian citizen, an Australian
permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
APPLYING FROM OUTSIDE OF AUSTRALIA

Prospective marriage visa (subclass 300) -
This visa is for someone intending to migrate to
Australia as a fiancé to an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an
eligible New Zealand citizen, with the intention of marriage.
Temporary spouse visa (subclass 309) -
This partner visa is for someone who is in a spousal relationship
(either married or de facto) with an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent
resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. This partner visa is available for same sex
couples.

Permanent spouse visa (subclass 100) -
This partner visa is a permanent visa that may be
Granted to a temporary spouse visa holder once Immigration is satisfied that the relationship is
ongoing and genuine. This partner visa may also be granted to someone who has been
in a long-term spousal relationship (either married or de facto) with an Australian citizen,
an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Student Visas
- Student visas allow individuals to come to Australia to undertake a broad range of study
, from English language courses to PhDs.

Australia offers a range of student visas for individuals, and their dependents, who wish to study in Australia.
There are different visas for differing levels of study, and the requirements vary according to the department's Country Profiles in conjunction with the primary level of study undertaken.
Student Visa Options:
- English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) (subclass 570) -
This student visa is for studying stand-alone English language courses that lead to a certificate I, II, III or IV, or that result in no formal Australian award.
- Primary or secondary school course (subclass 571) -
This student visa is for studying primary, junior secondary or senior secondary school courses, and approved secondary school exchange programs.
- Vocational education and training (subclass 572) -
This student visa is available for studying Certificates I, II, III or IV (except ELICOS), diploma, advanced diploma, vocational graduate certificate or vocational graduate diploma courses.
- Higher education (subclass 573) -
This student visa applies to students wanting to study a Bachelor degree, associate degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, or Masters by coursework.
- Postgraduate research (subclass 574) -
This student visa is available for students wanting to study a Masters by research or a doctoral degree.
- Non-award (subclass 575) -
This student visa is applicable for non-award foundation studies, or other full-time courses or components of courses not leading to an Australian award.
- AusAID and Defence (subclass 576) -
This visa applies to students sponsored by AusAID or the Australian Department of Defence undertaking full-time courses of any type.
- Student Guardians (subclass 580) -
This visa is for parents or relatives to stay in Australia as the guardian of a student who is studying in Australia.
- Professional Development Visa (Subclass 470) -
This visa allows sponsored foreign nationals who are professionals, managers or government officials, to undertake professional development training programs in Australia for periods of up to 18 months.
- Occupational Trainee Visa (Subclass 442) -
This visa allows foreign nationals to undertake a supervised, workplace-based training program in Australia. The training should provide additional skills in their occupation or field of expertise.
- General Skilled Migration Visas
- General skilled migration visas are for skilled individuals who have specific skills that are in demand
in Australia. These visas can be applied for independently or with state/territory sponsorship and/or
sponsorship by an eligible family member.

The following visa options are grouped according to whether you will be applying for a GSM visa from within Australia or from outside Australia.
ONSHORE GSM VISA OPTIONS
- Skilled - Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885) -
A permanent visa for eligible overseas students who have obtained an Australian qualification as a result of at least two years full-time study. Applicants must pass a points test.
- Skilled - Sponsored (Residence) visa (subclass 886) -
A permanent visa for eligible overseas students who have obtained an Australian qualification as a result of at least two years full-time study. This visa is for applicants that are unable to meet the Skilled Independent criteria, but have a relative in Australia to sponsor them, or have been nominated by a state/territory government. Applicants must pass a points test.
- Skilled - Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485) -
An 18 month temporary visa for overseas students who have obtained an Australian qualification in Australia as a result of at least two (2) years study. It allows applicants who are unable to pass the points test to remain in Australia for 18 months to gain the skills and experience needed to apply for a permanent or provisional General Skilled Migration visa. No points test applies.
- Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 487) -
A three year temporary visa for skilled individuals unable to meet the Skilled Independent criteria, but can still meet a reduced points requirement. After living in a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area for two years and working for at least 12 months in that metropolitan area, applicants may apply for a permanent visa. Applicants must be sponsored by a participating state/territory government, OR an eligible relative living in a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area who is willing to sponsor them.
- Skilled - Regional (Residence) visa (subclass 887) -
This is a permanent visa for eligible visa holders. Applicants must have lived for at least two years and worked full-time for a total period of 12 months in a specified regional area of Australia. No points test applies.
OFFSHORE GSM VISA OPTIONS
- Skilled - Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175) -
A permanent visa available for professionals who wish to migrate to Australia independently. Applicants must pass a points test.
- Skilled - Sponsored (Migrant) visa (subclass 176) -
A permanent visa for professional people unable to meet the Skilled - Independent pass mark. Applicants must be either sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a participating state or territory government. Applicants must pass a points test lower than that for the Skilled - Independent visa.
- Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 475) -
A three year temporary visa for skilled individuals unable to meet the Skilled Independent criteria, but able to meet a reduced points requirement. After living in a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area for two years and working for at least 12 months in that metropolitan area, applicants may apply for a permanent visa. Applicants must be sponsored by a participating state/territory government, OR an eligible relative living in a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area who is willing to sponsor them.
- Skilled - Recognised Graduate (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 476) -
An 18 month temporary visa for certain graduates of recognised overseas educational institutions. There is no points test for this visa.
- Business Visas
- Business visas are for individuals who want to establish a business in Australia or to
continue managing an existing business in Australia.

The following visa options are grouped according to permanent business visas and provisional business
visas.
The majority of business visas are progressive (IE they require a progression from a temporary
stage to a permanent one, usually following two years of operation). To discuss your business visa

PERMANENT VISA OPTIONS

Business Talent (Migrant) (Subclass 132) -
This business visa is for high calibre business people, sponsored
by a state or territory of Australia, who are owners or part owners of an overseas business and have a
genuine and realistic commitment to participate in the management of a new or existing business in
Australia. Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or from within Australia.

Business Owner (Residence) (Subclass 890) -
This business visa is for people to assist in the economic
development of Australia. This visa allows you to stay in Australia on a permanent basis for the purpose
of owning a new or existing business. Applications for this visa must be made in Australia.

State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Residence) (Subclass 892) -
This business visa is for people,
sponsored by a state or territory of Australia, to assist in the economic development of Australia
through ownership of a new or existing business. Applications for this visa must be made in Australia.
Established Business in Australia (Subclass 845) For temporary business visa holders who have
established a business in Australia, and have a proven ownership interest in one or more successful
businesses in Australia. Applications for this visa must be made in Australia.

Investor (Residence) (Subclass 891) -
This business visa is for Investor (provisional) visa holders that
have maintained their designated investment/s for at least 4 years. Applicants must have been in
Australia for at least 2 of the last 4 years. Applications for this visa must be made in Australia.
State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Residence) (Subclass 893) This business visa is for Investor
(provisional) visa holders who have a successful record of business or investment activities, and
significant net assets to invest in a designated investment in Australia for four years. Applicants must
also have a genuine commitment to maintain business and investment activity in Australia and be
sponsored by a state/territory authority. Applications for this visa must be made in Australia.
PROVISIONAL VISA OPTIONS

Business Owner (Provisional) (Subclass 160) -
This business visa is for people who have a successful
business career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to be involved as an owner in a new
or existing business in Australia. Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or within Australia.
State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Provisional) (Subclass 163) This business visa is for people
sponsored by a state or territory of Australia. Applicants must have a successful business career, and a
genuine and realistic commitment to be involved as an owner in a new or existing business in Australia.
Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or within Australia.

Senior Executives (Provisional) (Subclass 161) -
This business visa is for senior executive employees of a
major overseas business, who have significant net assets and a genuine and realistic commitment to
participate in the management of a new or existing business in Australia. Applications for this visa may
be made from overseas or within Australia.

State/Territory Sponsored Senior Executive (Provisional) (Subclass 164) -
This business visa is for senior
executive employees of a major overseas business, sponsored by a state or territory of Australia, who
have significant net assets and a genuine and realistic commitment to participate in the management
of a new or existing business in Australia. Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or
within Australia.

Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 162) -
This business visa is for people who have a successful business or
investment career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to invest in an Australian business.
Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or within Australia.
State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 165) This business visa is for people sponsored
by a state or territory of Australia, who have a successful business or investment career, and have a
genuine and realistic commitment to be involved in investing in an Australian business. Applications
for this visa may be made from overseas or within Australia.

Investor Retirement Visa (Subclass 405) -
A temporary business visa for people aged 55 years or older
who are able to make a significant long term financial investment in Australia. This visa is not a
pathway to a permanent visa. Applications for this visa may be made from overseas or within Australia.
Independent Executive Further Application Onshore (Subclass 457IEFAO) For holders of a Temporary
Business (Long Stay) Independent Executive visa (subclass 457IE) who need more time to be eligible
to apply for a permanent business visa. The applicant must be in Australia to apply.
